Shibari Art

After two years of exploring Japanese Rope Bondage (Shibari/Kinbaku), I find myself interested in the connection between ritual, the human body, and space. My works focus on the aesthetic and metaphorical aspects of Shibari, documenting my exploration on queerness.

Lihai's Prayer tells the story of a young woman who decided to restrain her femininity due to her family's expectation. I was born in an immigrant family dominant by women, and the story is based on my family history.

When Did You Sleep Last Night? explores human's relationship with home space. The covid-19 pandemic and year-long lockdowns have distorted the meaning of home space, forcing people to find new ways of reconnection.

Self-Tie: A Release is a video work of me creating a Bunny Tie on my upper arms. I find the practice of self-tie meditative and theraputic. As I sensed my body, thoughts flowed through me like water, creating a relaxing moment.
